At the May Board of Education meeting, Laura Brittingham, Colonel Richardson Middle School nurse, and Jennifer Yost, CCPS Supervisor of Health Services, were recognized for earning their National Board Certification of School Nurses credential.

This professional credential validates advanced knowledge and expertise in school nursing, and is the primary certification offered by the National board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN).

Director of Student Services Kirk Howie explained that earning this certification indicates that the individual has demonstrated advance clinical knowledge specific to school-aged populations, expertise in managing student health needs within educational settings, understanding of public health, mental health, and chronic conditions in schools, and ability to support student success by removing health-related barriers to learning.

National Board Certification for school nursing, designated as the NCSN credential, is a voluntary certification that validates a school nurse's advanced knowledge, competence, and commitment to the specialty. Administered by the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN), it sets a national standard for the profession, demonstrating expertise in the unique health needs of students.
