At the April Board of Education meeting, Dr. Nicole VonDenBosch was appointed Chief Academic Officer for Caroline County Public Schools.
At the March Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Derek L. Simmons announced a leadership reorganization designed to strengthen the school system’s academic focus and ensure continued stability moving forward. He stated a position of Chief Academic Officer (realigned from Assistant Superintendent of Instruction) will remain focused on instruction and academic alignment, particularly in support of Blueprint initiatives. The role will sharpen its concentration specifically on academic leadership and outcomes. He added that given the changes to instruction over the past few years, a steady intentional focus on the area of instruction was required, which necessitated a change in the position.
“I’m excited to recommend Dr. VonDenBosch for this position,” Dr. Simmons said. “After interviewing a full slate of candidates, our team of seven unanimously felt she stood out as the best match. Her background in administration, combined with her leadership in implementing the state’s math changes both locally and in supporting the state, demonstrates the expertise and vision this role demands. Dr. VonDenBosch is truly the right person to lead our instructional team.”
Dr. VonDenBosch currently serves as the Supervisor of Instruction for Mathematics, a role she has held since 2023. A proud graduate of Colonel Richardson High School, she began her career with Caroline County Public Schools in 1999 as a teacher at Preston Elementary Schol.
Over the past 25 years, Dr. VonDenBosch has held a variety of leadership positions across the school system, including assistant principal and principal roles at Denton Elementary, Federalsburg Elementary, Lockerman Middle School, and Colonel Richardson High School.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in School Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, and also holds advanced certification in Administration and Superintendency.
