The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) released the 2025 Report Card data, including star ratings for individual schools and other resource information, on October 28. Denton, Federalsburg, Greensboro and Ridgely Elementary Schools, Colonel Richardson Middle School, and North Caroline and Colonel Richardson High Schools all maintained their 2024 status of three stars. Lockerman Middle School showed significant improvement from last year and is now also rated as a three-star school. Preston Elementary School maintained their four-star status.
Caroline and Statewide results may be found on the Maryland Public Schools Report Card website.
The Report Card provides a comprehensive overview of school performance across various metrics, such as Academic Achievement, Academic Progress for elementary and middle schools, School Quality and Student Success, Graduation Rates, and College and Career Readiness for high schools. The results of the Maryland Report Card are one of many data points we use to measure the success of our schools.
We acknowledge there are inherent challenges in the current accountability system, as identified by State Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright and State Board President Dr. Clarence Crawford in their remarks at the State Board meeting. Specifically, there are deficiencies in how the report card reflects student growth and the fact that it remains too closely tied to measures of poverty.
“Despite the challenges, the dedication and hard work across all of our schools have led to steady, consistent growth districtwide over the past four years,” the Superintendent said. “We remain deeply committed to delivering high-quality instruction and strong academic support to improve outcomes for every student. We are also grateful for the ongoing support of our families and communities, as we know it truly takes a village to educate our students.”
