At their June meeting, the Board of Education recognized Colonel Richardson High School Counselor Jennifer Reed for earning the National Certified Counselor (NCC) designation from the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).

The NCC is a rigorous, examination-based, professional certification program. To earn the credential, professional counselors must show that they have completed specific educational and training requirements and demonstrate an ongoing professional commitment to the field by satisfying other program requirements. Once certified, counselors must meet ongoing requirements in order to maintain and recertify their NCC.

In order to earn the NCC, Ms. Reed had to complete a Certificate of Advanced Study through Loyola University Maryland to earn additional master's level credits in specific counseling areas, and pass the National Counselor Exam. Ms. Reed has since applied for the National Certified School Counselor (NCSC), which required earning the NCC certification first.

“It is an honor to recognize Ms. Reed for her commitment to continuing education and training,” Supervisor Nicole Fisher said, “She is really an asset to the Colonel Richardson High School family, the CCPS counseling team, the student services team, and the district at large.”
