At their September meeting, the Board of Education recognized Lockerman Middle School Counselor James Freeman for earning the National Certified Counselor (NCC) designation from the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
In presenting the recognition, Director of Student Services Kirk Howie shared that earning this voluntary professional certification is a rigorous process that requires approximately two years. “This shows Mr. Freeman’s commitment to professional growth and development,” he stated, “and to providing high quality service to students and families.”
The NCC is a rigorous, examination-based, professional certification program. To earn the credential, professional counselors must show that they have completed specific educational and training requirements and demonstrate an ongoing professional commitment to the field by satisfying other program requirements. Once certified, counselors must meet ongoing requirements in order to maintain and recertify their NCC.
