Students and staff from Caroline Career and Technology Center, Colonel Richardson High School, and North Caroline High School took part in the Maryland Special Olympics Cool Schools Plunge Day during the Polar Bear Plunge activities this month. The schools also participated in the fundraising part of the plunge, with CRHS raising over $7,000. According to officials, this year nearly 8,000 students took the plunge, up from 5,000 last year.
Caroline County Board of Education President Rick Barton is a long-time participant and Super Plunger, which involves 24 plunges in 24 hours and a pledge to raise at least $10,000 for our Special Olympic Maryland athletes. Mr. Barton also acted as the announcer for the Cool Schools Plunge, as he has done for several years.
At the February Board of Education meeting, he shared how proud he was of the students from Caroline County schools. “I love the fact that students are interacting with the athletes, the people who qualify for Special Olympics,” he said. “To see that unified work, to see how far it’s come and to see our county so strongly represented … it was heartwarming.”
