Lockerman Middle School was chosen to receive a donation of STEM resources and technology from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. This donation was made possible by a grant to the foundation from the University of Maryland Medical System Foundation.

The school received approximately $40,000 worth of STEM kits which are made up of materials that support the middle school curriculum in science, technology, engineering-related topics and math. Materials can be used by all teachers and come with curriculum guidance and an online portal with cross-curricular lesson plans and resources. Teachers were introduced to the materials and provided instruction about use during a professional development day in November.

“This is an incredible donation,” Director of College and Career Readiness Lindsey McCormick said. “It provides Lockerman students with a wealth of resources that will strengthen our focus on hands-on learning with real-world applications.”

Superintendent Derek Simmons said he was grateful to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the University of Maryland Medical Center for their generosity. “Donations like this greatly enrich our STEM education programs,” he stated.
