At the January board of education meeting, the board recognized Dr. Benjamin Bradner, North Caroline High School teacher, for earning a Doctor of Education in Literacy Studies degree from Salisbury University.
Supervisor of Instruction Renee Hesson introduced Dr. Bradner and expressed her admiration for Dr. Bradner’s work and dedication to students. She explained his dissertation is entitled Exploring Multimodal Composing in the Secondary ELA Classroom: Enhancing Literacy Through Diverse Modes of Expression. In this doctoral study, Dr. Bradner examined how sequencing multimodal projects, scaffolding instruction, and responding flexibly to student needs helped students move beyond formulaic writing and engage more deeply with meaning, audience, and purpose.
Dr. Bradner has been with Caroline County Public Schools for 29 years, and teaches Advanced Placement Language and Composition and English 11 at North Caroline High School.
Superintendent Simmons and Board President Wayman congratulated Dr. Bradner and recognized the tremendous time and effort involved in completing a doctoral degree.
Dr. Bradner thanked the Board and said, “My parents, and their love of reading and learning, are the reason I am who I am today. In the past three years, I have lost both my older brother and my mother, each of whom taught me the importance of family, purpose, and the delicate balance between devotion to both. Finally, my wife, Mirta, without whose unwavering support over the past six years this doctorate would not have been possible, continually reminds me that nothing meaningful is ever accomplished alone.”
