new teachers

Caroline County Public Schools welcomed 40 new teachers to the district today with a breakfast and orientation. Two new assistant principals, Ms. Gardner at Colonel Richardson High School and Mr. Rorie at North Caroline High School, and a new supervisor of instruction Mr. Gray were also introduced to the Caroline Family.

Superintendent Dr. Derek L. Simmons welcomed everyone to the first event of New Teacher Orientation, and noted that whether brand new to teaching or coming from another district, joining Caroline is the best professional decision they could make. He emphasized they are now part of a district that by every measure is moving forward, supported by a school board, employee associations, and staff all working together. “In Caroline, everyone is willing to help,” he said. “Our motto, One Family – One Vision, truly defines us.”

Dr. Simmons shared that he came to Caroline as a student teacher at Lockerman and 25 years later, is still here because it has always felt like home. He attributed our high retention rate to the fact that everyone has the opportunity to grow, and we all share the belief that what matters most is what happens in the classroom.

Board President Michele Wayman welcomed everyone on behalf of the Board, and described Caroline as a “small school system doing big things.” As a former Caroline teacher herself, she stressed that no one is alone, and encouraged reaching out to colleagues and mentors whenever needed.

Caroline County Education Association (CCEA) President Amy Bauman said that Caroline enjoys strong relationships across the county, and the association was there to support all staff.

Administrators and Supervisors Association of Caroline County (ASACC) President Renee Hesson said, “Whether it’s your very first year or a new chapter in a seasoned career, congratulations on choosing Caroline.”

Caroline County Sheriff Donnie Baker also welcomed everyone and noted that one new teacher graduated with his daughter, which was a reflection of how interconnected the community is. He also expressed his appreciation for the strong partnership between his department, which provides a School Resource Officer (SRO) to every school, and the school system.

Principals introduced their new teachers and shared brief details. It was noted that several newcomers were former students, a powerful reminder of the value of ‘grow your own’.

The event was generously sponsored by Educational Systems Federal Credit Union who were on hand to greet teachers.

Following breakfast, teachers began the orientation process which continues through next week. All teachers and staff return on Monday, August 25 and begin the 2025-2026 school year with a Welcome Back Celebration at Colonel Richardson High School.
