Students completing the Academy of Health Professions program recently took the Maryland Board of Nursing Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam. All students passed and are active as CNAs in the state of Maryland. Of those CNAs, 22 took and passed both parts of the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program exam and are now eligible to work in any state in the country as CNAs. This CCTC course is taught by Norma Schultz, MSN RN, with the assistance of Kaitylin Skinner, CNA/GNA.

Prior to the exam, students must have received at least a 75% in the class and pass a comprehensive 100 question final written exam with a 75% score. They also must complete clinical rotations in order to participate in the care of patients in a variety of settings. Students completed 42 hours work in a nursing home setting and another 84 hours in other settings including Arcadia Assisted Living, Homestead Assisted Living, Caroline Adult Day Care, and all the Caroline middle and elementary school.

This Career & Technology Education (CTE) program, provided at Caroline Career & Technology Center (CCTC), is designed for juniors and seniors who are interested in hands-on professions in the healthcare industry. During the first semester students learn basic human anatomy, current health issues, and entry-level skills to provide care to patients. During the second semester students learn advanced skills for patient care and investigate disease processes with a concentration on the care of a geriatric patient. During clinical rotations the students will have the opportunity to participate in care of patients in a variety of community based-health facilities.
