When bad weather is possible, the transportation supervisor begins active monitoring at 3:30 a.m. by reviewing county temperatures and National Weather Service forecasts. Transportation staff conduct on-road checks and consult state and county road departments, neighboring school districts, local emergency services, and law enforcement for current and predicted road conditions. Maintenance staff report on school driveways and parking lots and their treatment plans.

A final assessment is made at 4:30 a.m., and by 4:45 a.m. a recommendation is given based on the worst actual or forecasted conditions and expected road treatment by 6 a.m. The Superintendent/designee reviews the information and decides to open on time, delay two hours, or close.

If a two-hour delay is decided, the process is repeated beginning at 5:30 a.m., with a final decision by 7:30 a.m. Early dismissal decisions follow the same process if conditions worsen later in the day.

For snowstorms predicted in advance, the Superintendent and Director of Operations closely monitor the evolving forecast and consult with state and local officials. A plan is developed that accounts for possible outcomes and the potential impact of any closures.
