CCPS’s two stakeholder groups, the Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) and the School System Improvement Council (SSIC) held a joint meeting on March 8, 2023 to focus on Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. The Committee Chairs joined the group to review their pillars goals and objectives.

Dr. Downes started the meeting with reminders about why Blueprint was created and our timeline for gathering the information, putting the plan together, and gathering stakeholder feedback. She also explained how Blueprint connects to our current strategic plan.

Supervisor of Early Childhood Elizabeth Saylor discussed Pillar 1: Early Childhood. She explained the main objectives of this pillar are expanding Pre-k 3 & 4 programs, Kindergarten Readiness, & expanding family support through Judy Centers.

Supervisor of Human Resources Dr. Rob Willoughby discussed Pillar 2: High Quality & Diverse Teachers & Leaders. He discussed recruiting efforts and trends, teacher preparation programs, the career ladder, and improved educator compensation.

Director of Instruction Lindsey McCormick and Supervisor of CTE Courtney Handte presented Pillar 3: College & Career Readiness. They explained the implementation of College and Career Readiness Pathways and high quality career counseling beginning in 6th grade. They detailed the differences in the CCR pathway and non-CCR pathway, schedules, and the use of individual learning plans.

Director of Student Services & Special Programs Elizabeth Anthony presented Pillar 4: Resources to Ensure All Students are Successful. She discussed the investment of resources and improving the education for low-income students, English Learners, and students with disabilities. She also explained the importance of Community Schools and the partnerships built to bring more resources to the students who need them the most. She also reviewed the current status of health services and the plan for expanding those through Blueprint.

Assistant Superintendent Tara Downes presented Pillar 5: Governance & Accountability. She explained the internal process of building the Blueprint and the involvement from stakeholders and the community.

Members of the SSIC and CAC asked relevant questions throughout the meeting and discussed plans for future topics in the upcoming school year as the Plan unfolds.
