April 22, 2020 – The Maryland State Board of Education recently voted to waive two specific graduation requirements that impact the Class of 2020.
- Service Learning – The State waived the Student Service requirement for seniors.
- High School Assessments (HSA) – The State waived all state testing requirements.
Further information for specific students may be obtained through their school principal and counselor.
Locally, Superintendent Patty Saelens asked principals to convene small committees at each high school, made up of senior class leaders, parents, advisors, and guidance counselors, to discuss alternate ways to honor and celebrate graduation activities. In a recent letter to seniors, Dr. Saelens stated, “Please understand that all proposals will need to be reviewed and approved at the Board level. However, my hope is that this will give you some measure of making the culmination of your senior year truly your own.”
