The 2018 annual Colonel Richardson High School versus North Caroline High School football game will mark the beginning of a new tradition. In connection with the spirit of education-based athletics and the core values of the school system, Superintendent of Schools Patricia Saelens will recognize a senior member of each team with the Superintendent’s Unsung Leader Award.

Dr. Saelens stated, “The Superintendent’s Cup, awarded for many years, has served its purpose well. With this new tradition, we seek to acknowledge that not every leader has a title or commands attention from the front of the team. Sometimes the most influential leader is the one who shows extraordinary effort and dedication, leads by example, and is a player that teammates naturally and informally follow. These are the qualities this new award will recognize.”

During the final regular season game, both recipients will be recognized before the game and serve as honorary captains.
