State Superintendent Announces Temporary Closure of Maryland Public Schools

<< Back to CCPS News

March 12, 2020 – This afternoon, during Governor Larry Hogan’s press conference, Dr. Karen Salmon, State Superintendent of Schools, directed that effective Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27, all public schools in Maryland will be closed. All scheduled school-sanctioned travel for students and staff will also be cancelled effective immediately.

Only CCPS employees designated as essential will be reporting to work during the closure, as assigned by their supervisor. All employees should expect an email update this evening.

Throughout the closure, we will be meeting daily with county agencies involved in the COVID-19 effort.  We are working our way through many issues, such as considering how we will support students who rely on our school meals program.

We are fully committed to providing staff and families with as much information as possible during the closure. Please be sure to visit our website on a regular basis.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we work through this very difficult situation. Please continue to take care of yourselves and your families.
