LMS Celebrates Black History Month with Music & Poetry

Lockerman Middle School’s observance of Black History Month included a student assembly rich in music and poetry. The LMS Jazz Band and Advanced Chorus impressed the audience with traditional and classic favorites, and students and guests read selections from various writers. Members of the Lockerman School Association, Inc., were honored guests at the event.

The agenda was comprised of:

  • Welcome from Principal VonDenBosch
  • Jazz Band – Star Spangled Banner
  • Ms. Sharon Conaway – Black History Month Purpose
  • Advanced Chorus – Lift Every Voice and Sing (African American National Anthem)
  • Ms. Rosalind Hoxter – Still I Rise by Maya Angelou
  • Jazz Band – Siya Hamba: It Don’t Mean a Thing
  • Ta’nizah Murray & Amari Hall – The story of Aretha Franklin’s Respect
  • Jazz Band – Respect
  • Mr. William Brown – Greetings from the Lockerman School Association, Inc.
  • Ms. Nicole Fisher – Black History Month background
  • Kaitlyn Eaton – Voting Rights
  • Tre’Vaughn Watson & Advanced Chorus – Glory
  • Travis Turner – Spirituals
  • Advanced Chorus – Sun Don’t Set in the Morning; Dancing in the Streets
