CCPS is pleased to announce that Michael (Rico) Gestole has been hired as the new School Security/Safety Coordinator.
Mr. Gestole will be responsible for building safety in conjunction with law enforcement throughout the county schools and administrative buildings. His responsibilities will include working with building administrators to develop, refine, and implement appropriate emergency procedures, plans and regulations to ensure safe schools/facilities and enhance school emergency procedures. Mr. Gestole will also be conducting appropriate staff training programs and developing other recommendations to ensure a safe environment in the schools.
Mr. Gestole has been employed with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. Since 2008, he has been assigned as a school resource officer (SRO) at Colonel Richardson Middle School and Colonel Richardson High School. Previously, Mr. Gestole served two years as a Ridgely police officer, and five years in the United States Army as a military police officer.
In 2018, the Maryland Center for School Safety named then-Cpl. Gestole the School Resource Officer of the Year. He was also awarded Deputy of the Year in 2009 by the Maryland Sheriff’s Association.
Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Milton Nagel stated, “Mr. Gestole’s years of experience in the military, law enforcement, and as a successful CCPS school resource officer make him the right person for the job. In the past decade, we’ve made great advances in incorporating safety into the fabric of our school system through evaluation, structural improvements, education and training, and Rico has played an important role in that. Now we look forward to his leadership in building on that foundation.”
