Students in Caroline Career and Technology Center’s Academy of Health Professions recently celebrated Career & Technical Education Month is a big way. Twenty-five students completing the course in January passed the Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) written test, and twenty-four passed the skills test.

Laura Eser, Academy of Health Occupations instructor, said this represented a 98% pass rate, which made her extraordinarily proud of her students.

The Academy of Health Occupations program is designed for high school juniors and seniors interested in a nursing, health, or medical career. During the first semester, students learn basic human anatomy and entry level patient care skills. In the second semester, students learn advanced skills and begin to investigate disease processes. During clinical rotations, students assist in a variety of community-based health facilities. Upon successful completion of the course, a student is a Certified Nursing Assistant and eligible to take the Geriatric Nursing Assistant exam.
