Gigliyana (Gigi) Leynes, a Lockerman Middle School student, was presented the Overall Best Middle School Essay award for her Laws of Life Essay Contest submission. The award was presented at a recent Character Counts Mid-Shore Awards Dinner. Gigi’s essay was one of three awards given, and all were chosen from among 895 submissions.
The Laws of Life are a set of rules, ideals, and principles by which one should live. Students were instructed to write an essay describing one or two of their own Laws of Life, using at least one of Character Counts Six Pillars of Character to guide their writing. The six pillars of character are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
