Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Superintendent of Schools Karen B. Salmon has announced that local school systems in Maryland may begin the interscholastic athletic fall season on October 7, 2020.

The Public School Superintendents’ Association of Maryland (PSSAM), of which CCPS Superintendent Patty Saelens is president-elect, released a statement in response.

Dr. Saelens added, “Our focus right now remains on transitioning students into the school building in as safely as possible. We will continue to plan for a return to athletics and extra-curricular activities as outlined in the Recovery Plan approved by MSDE and the recently approved CCPS Athletics First Semester Plan. This plan implements the two-semester option referenced in MSDE’s press release.”
