Announcement from Caroline County Board of Education

<< Back to CCPS News

After much consideration and review, the Caroline County Board of Education has agreed to not renew the contract of Superintendent Dr. Patricia Saelens when it expires on June 30th. As outlined in Maryland State Code, if a renewal was to be offered, it had to be announced by March 1st. Having no renewal to announce, there is no additional action for the Board to take. The Board of Education plans to continue working proactively with Dr. Saelens through the remainder of her contract with Caroline County Public Schools. We thank Dr. Saelens for leading our system during the last 4 years and wish her much success in her future professional endeavors.

The Board of Education looks forward to sharing details regarding the transition process and a Superintendent search as it is developed. As previously stated, the Board looks forward to working with Dr. Saelens, while interim candidates are identified and interviewed as we prepare for the 2021 – 2022 academic year. As the superintendent search pursues, be assured that the Caroline County Board of Education is focused on the students, staff and community of Caroline County.
